We all know the cravings for all things pumpkin start well before fall officially arrives. When the weather is still screaming “summer!” (it’s sunny and 81 degrees as I’m writing this now) but you’re ready for cozy fall vibes, it’s the perfect time to make a pumpkin pie protein shake.

I also have a recipe for a regular pumpkin pie smoothie, but this one is for those of you trying to increase your protein intake. It’s great for a post-workout snack (if it fits within your caloric needs) or the perfect breakfast when you’re in a hurry. Let’s go!

Recipe Ingredients–What You Needingredients for pumpkin protein shake

It’s easy to make pumpkin spice protein shakes at home with these simple ingredients.

1/2 cup Pumpkin Purée

I use regular canned pumpkin for this; make sure you’re not buying the sweetened pumpkin pie filling. I know we all love “pumpkin spice” but the pumpkin puree itself brings vitamin A, vitamin C, and a good amount of fiber to this smoothie recipe.

1/2 cup Cottage Cheese or Greek Yogurt

Both of these are a great option for adding protein to this recipe; I’ve tried them both and loved both versions.

1 scoop Pumpkin Spice Proetein Powder

I used Truvani Pumpkin Spice Protein Powder and it’s my favorite protein powder for this recipe. However, this Pumpkin Protein Shake can absolutely be made if you don’t have this specific protein powder. Please see my notes in my recipe card if you’d prefer to use your favorite vanilla protein powder or even a plain version.

1 frozen banana

Using a frozen banana lends a creamy texture to our pumpkin protein smoothie that I just love.

1 navel orange

The orange juice gives a natural sweetness and using the whole orange adds more fiber.

Dash of Pumpkin Pie Spice

I just use a dash of my homemade pumpkin pie spice because the protein powder I use already has pumpkin pie spice in it. (I like a little more because I need that pumpkin pie spice flavor to come through!) If you’re not using a protein powder with pumpkin pie spice, you’ll need to use about 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, or to taste.

Dash of Cinnamon

I like a little extra cinnamon, both for its health benefits and for its flavor.

1. Place all the ingredients and a little ice (optional– like my smoothies and shakes extra cold) in a high powered blender. Blend until smooth. ice, banana, pumpkin puree in a blender
