This Caprese cottage cheese dip will make eating veggies into a delicious experiment. It’s creamy, flavorful, and super healthy. Dip your favorite things into it, or spread it onto sandwiches for a tasty twist.
There are many different cream cheese or sour cream based dips you can serve with pita chips and crackers. They are great, and we love them, but I just had to try something different. Something healthier! And so I picked up cottage cheese. We amp up the protein by using cottage cheese to make a smooth and delicious dip.
This cottage cheese veggie dip is even better than ranch dip. Don’t worry–this doesn’t taste like diet food!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Healthy Dip: This is a high-protein dip, so you don’t have to feel guilty about dipping your fresh veggies and tortilla chips in it. Cottage cheese adds almost 60 grams of protein to this dip–perfect for a health-conscious eater like me.
Great Make-Ahead Option: Make this easy cottage cheese dip a day or two in advance, keep it in an airtight container in the fridge, and serve when you’re ready. It’ll be a great addition to your game day appetizers.
Simple Ingredients: An easy appetizer recipe with simple ingredients is just what you need when hosting a party or get-together. You can whip this dip up in no time with just a few ingredients, and it’ll surely be a crowd-pleaser.
Recipe Ingredients–What You Need
Cherry Tomatoes: The sweet and slightly tangy flavor of cherry tomatoes will bring out the best in the dip. Let’s not forget that beautiful orange hue that you’ll get. And, of course, tomatoes are rich in vitamins A and C – we need them!
Garlic Clove: Fresh garlic for flavor win! We roast it to mellow it out and bring out some sweetness.
Basil Leaves: Fresh basil will add a pop of color to this delicious dip and give it a slightly spicy and mildly sweet flavor.
Olive Oil: A drizzle of olive oil to toast the tomatoes and garlic. It’ll also help blend the rest of the ingredients in the immersion blender. Avocado oil works great, too, but olive oil is preferred here for the flavor.
Salt and Black Pepper: You can’t ever leave them out, can you? You can add other spices if you like. I’ve shared some ideas under the variations section.
Cottage Cheese: That’s, of course, our main ingredient here. The creamy texture of whipped cottage cheese will give this dip an unbeatably velvety finish. You can use low-fat cottage cheese or full-fat cottage cheese – it’s completely your choice. Different brands are also available in grocery stores, so you won’t have trouble finding them. Note that full-fat cottage cheese will result in a slightly thicker dip, while the low-fat version will give you a thinner result.
Balsamic Glaze: You can make your own balsamic glaze at home or buy it pre-made.

How to Make Caprese Whipped Cottage Cheese Dip
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place the tomatoes and whole garlic clove on a rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with the oil, 1/8 teaspoon salt and 1/16 teaspoon pepper. Toss to coat.
- Roast the tomatoes and garlic for 20-30 minutes, until they are browned and caramelized.
- Allow the tomatoes and garlic to cool, then place the cottage cheese, garlic, 5 of the basil leaves, and the remaining salt and pepper to a small blender. Blend until smooth and creamy. Do not overblend. A food processor may also be used.
- Chiffonade the remaining two basil leaves.
- Place the cottage cheese dip in a shallow serving bowl. Distribute the roasted tomatoes to the top of the dip. Top the tomatoes with the basil strips and drizzle the balsamic glaze over the entire dish. Serve with vegetables or pita chips. Enjoy!
Tips and Tricks
- When you blitz everything in the food processor or blender, check the consistency. If you blend too long, it will become too thin, so be careful. I’d rather have a less smooth cottage cheese than have you turn it into soup!
- Let the Caprese cottage cheese dip sit in the fridge for a while. The more time the ingredients get to know each other, the better. The flavors will blend, and it’ll taste even more delicious!
- Don’t be afraid to adjust the seasoning according to your preference. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat or a squeeze of lemon juice for an extra tangy flavor. Onion powder and garlic powder are also great additions.
Variations
Use Plain Greek Yogurt: Not a fan of cottage cheese? Replace it with Greek yogurt. It’ll be tangier than the original version but still incredibly delicious.
Try Other Vegetables: Use spinach leaves instead of cherry tomatoes for an entirely different version. You can even use artichokes for a new twist on this dip. As for the topping, how about some bell peppers? Experiment to know what works best.
Add More Fresh Herbs: Don’t be afraid to add some fresh dill and fresh parsley to this dip.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Use Cream Cheese Instead of Cottage Cheese?
Yep! Cream cheese will match the flavor profile of cottage cheese, but because it’s denser and smoother, you’ll have a thicker, creamier dip. Not so bad, right? It won’t, however, have the same nutritional profile as cream cheese doesn’t have the protein content that cottage cheese has.
For How Long Can I Keep This Creamy Dip in the Fridge?
The dip will do fine in the fridge for about five days. It might get thicker with time, but nothing that you can’t fix. Give it a good stir with some water, and you’ll be fine.
