Although Easter is the most popular time of year to make Deviled Eggs, they are a favorite all year round. Whether it’s a holiday, summer picnic, or you just need a tasty and delicious snack option, Deviled Eggs are always a good choice. I rounded up some of the best Deviled Egg Recipes from around the web so you can get creative and go beyond your basic recipe!
What are Deviled Eggs?
Just in case you aren’t sure, Deviled Eggs are the classic preparation for hard boiled eggs. Cooked yolks are mixed with different creamy ingredients, traditionally mayonnaise and mustard. There are many different mix-ins that can customize the flavor and texture and getting creative with these is fun! The yolk mixture is then placed into the cooked egg white halves.
How to Make Deviled Eggs
Hard Boil the Eggs
The first and most important step to perfect Deviled Eggs is to make perfect hard-boiled eggs. My absolute favorite way to do this is to make my Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs. Making hard-boiled eggs in the Instant Pot makes for the easiest peeling ever and they are cooked perfectly every time.
If you don’t have an Instant Pot, this is the cooking method I use for cooking hard-boiled eggs:
- Boil a pot of water.
- Add eggs to the boiling water, then remove from heat and cover.
- Allow the eggs to sit in the covered pot for 12 minutes, then transfer to an ice bath.
- When the eggs are cooled, peel the shells from the eggs.
Make the Filling
Once you have your eggs cooked, you’re ready to prepare the yolk filling. Cut your peeled eggs in half, and spoon the cooked yolks into a bowl. Add whatever mix-ins you’re using (just some mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper is fine for the most basic Deviled Eggs) and use a fork to mash it well. You can also use a food processor for this step, but it’s not necessary.
How to Fill the Eggs
I like to use a piping bag to fill my Deviled Eggs. It just makes for a prettier presentation. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can make one by cutting the end off of a plastic bag. If presentation isn’t a concern, simply spoon the mixture back into the egg white halves.
