Smoothies are AWESOME! They are quick and easy to make, fill you with essential nutrients, and taste divine! This Berry Smoothie recipe will become your ultimate go-to. It has everything – a sweet, fruity flavor, smooth and creamy texture, and protein goodness. Save it for the days when you don’t have the time or energy to make a big breakfast.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Easy and Quick Breakfast Option: A lot of people aren’t too excited about jumping out of bed to make a full-blown breakfast first thing in the morning. If that sounds like you, you’ll love this recipe because it takes just a few minutes to whip up. All you need is a blender and five simple ingredients.
Delicious and Healthy Smoothie: This simple berry smoothie is a perfectly blended combination of healthy ingredients. You’ll get vitamins, proteins, and fats in a glass. Plus, when they all come together, it’s a flavor blast!
Versatile and Stunning: As they say, you eat with your eyes first! And this pretty purple fresh fruit smoothie will be a treat to look at and sip. You can have it as a breakfast, dessert, or snack!
Ingredient for Mixed Berry Smoothie Recipe
You’ll notice that there is no added sugar in this delicious berry smoothie. The sweetness comes from the orange, the berries, and the protein powder which is sweetened with stevia and monk fruit.
Navel Orange: A burst of vitamin C in your morning drink will wake you up and get your day going! Orange juice also adds a hint of sweet-and-tart flavor to the smoothie. This orange also gives us the liquid for our recipe. No need to add any milk or water. You’ll need one large navel orange. Peel the rind and pull the wedges apart.
Cottage Cheese: The healthy combination of fruit and cottage cheese makes this smoothie creamy and rich. It also boosts the calcium and protein content of the smoothie—great for your bones and muscles!
Frozen Mixed Berries: The antioxidant-rich berries are the star of the recipe. We’ll use frozen berries because they are easier to work with and will give you a chilled smoothie without any ice. Get the kind that has different types of berries all in one.
Strawberry Protein Powder: As you can see in the photo above, I used the Strawberries & Cream Protein Powder from Just Ingredients. It has four sources of protein: 100% grass-fed non-featured whey protein, organic pea protein, collagen protein, and chia seed protein. It is sweetened with stevia and monk fruit, so it won’t give us any added sugars. I don’t use protein powders a lot, but I’ve really enjoyed this brand.

How to Make the Best Berry Smoothie Recipe
We all know how easy most smoothie recipes are. That’s why they make such terrific breakfast options!
Step 1–Add all ingredients, in order listed, in your blender.
Step 2–Blend until smooth and creamy!
Give it time to really blend and create the best texture!
Tips and Tricks
- I left ice out of this smoothie to make it creamier. The frozen fruit should work to keep it nice and cold.
- If you get ripe fresh berries – perfect! Freeze them and use them to make your smoothie after they’re frozen so you keep the creamy, thick texture of the recipe.
- Since we’re working with frozen fruit, a high-powered blender is your best tool. Adding the orange first also helps with the blending.
- Add a bit of peanut butter or almond butter to add some healthy fats to your smoothie.
Variations
Your Berry Smoothie can be done in various ways. The best part is that each one delivers! I’m sharing my favorite substitutes for berry smoothie ingredients. I’ve tried a version with each of these, and they all turned out well.
Try pineapple juice: Here’s a great way to give your smoothie a tropical twist. Add half and half of pineapple and orange juice for a refreshing blend.
Sweeten the smoothie more: Pop in a ripe banana for more natural sweetness. If you prefer using a frozen banana, go for it. It’ll only make the smoothie creamier. Although bananas go extremely well with the trio of berries, if you want to keep things simple, a strawberry banana smoothie will delight your taste buds, too! Maple syrup is another great choice as a natural sweetener.
You decide on the texture: Plant-based milk like oat milk, coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk, and soy milk are perfect additions to smoothie recipes. For a fuller, creamier texture, use plain Greek yogurt. Vanilla Greek yogurt will do, too, but that will mean you have added sugar, which isn’t my favorite for a morning smoothie.
Add More Fiber: I love my smoothies with a handful of seeds or nuts. My best picks are hemp seeds, chia seeds, and pumpkin seeds.
