I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–a dressing can make or break a salad. I have loved ranch salad dressing since I was a kid, but it’s really difficult to find healthy store-bought dressings. Most have some sort of vegetable or seed oil as the #1 ingredient. These oils are super high in omega 6 fatty acids, and they can throw off a healthy ratio of Omega 6: Omega 3 fatty acids, which contributes to inflammation and increased risk of autoimmune disease and other health ailments. For this reason, I prefer to make homemade ranch salad dressing. This 2-minute recipe makes it super easy and this is a really healthy alternative to store-bought ranch. It’s thick enough that you can use this as a dressing for your salad or a dip for your vegetables. Or your pizza. Anyone else love dipping their pizza in ranch dressing?! Let’s go!
Why You’ll Love Greek Yogurt Ranch
- You get the ranch flavor you crave with a boost of protein from the Greek yogurt and no added preservative.
- No special equipment needed. You only need a mixing bowl and a spoon or whisk to combine the ingredients.
- This dressing takes less than 5 minutes to make! There are no excuses of not having enough time to make a healthy, homemade dressing.
- You can keep it fresh and easy. Make this easy homemade ranch dressing ahead of time and store it in an airtight container in your fridge. It’s perfect for a meal-prep salad.
Ingredients Needed for Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing Recipe
Here’s what you’ll need to make homemade dressing:
-
Non-fat Greek Yogurt: It’s the backbone of our healthier ranch as it gives that creamy texture and adds a nice protein boost without the added fat. Of course, you want to make sure you get plain yogurt with no added flavorings.
-
High-quality Mayonnaise: A touch of mayonnaise is needed to add richness and smoothness to the dressing. Don’t get the kind with soybean oil, as you might as well get store-bought ranch if you do that. My favorite brand is Primal Kitchen, which is made with avocado oil. Find it here.
-
Dried Dill Weed: It adds a fresh, slightly tangy flavor that is quintessential to any ranch dressing.
-
Garlic Powder: Garlic powder brings a warm flavor that compliments the coolness of the yogurt.
-
Onion Powder: This powder offers a subtle sharpness and contributes to the complex flavor layers of our ranch.
-
Salt: Salt balances and intensifies all the flavors.
