Ready to try out the best fresh raspberry margarita? Let’s get to it.
Raspberry Margarita Ingredients
Tequila Blanco or Reposado
I like my margaritas balanced to the hilt with a pleasant floral aroma, and tequila is the star of the show. You can use blanco or resposado tequila for this recipe. Blanco (also called silver) is not aged, clear in color, and most often used in mixing drinks.
Resposado tequila has been aged in oak barrels from a few months to a year. The aging tempers the strong agave flavor and adds some fruity, floral, and spicy notes.
Lime Juice
A splash of fresh lime juice makes the margarita a margarita! It’s the perfect measure of acidity and flavor.
We need 1 ounce of juice squeezed from half a lime slice to bring our margarita together.
Keep an extra lime wedge to make a lime wheel for garnishing.
Orange Liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau)
The special secret ingredient of this margarita is orange liqueur. You can use any brand of Triple Sec or, typically our favorite, Cointreau (We were out when I took the photo above). You just need the orange liqueurs that give your drink a citrusy flavor and some sweetness that offsets the bold tequlia. It really is hard to duplicate with anything else. Only a few drops will do the magic. So, use 1/2 ounce of it in your margarita mix.
Agave Nectar
Agave is traditionally used in classic margaritas. No bitter aftertaste, no white sugar mess. It’s just a sweetener that goes well with tequila. It is perfect for fruity margaritas. Also, agave nectar is vegan.
We need 1/2 ounce of agave nectar for this recipe. That’s about one teaspoon of it. Adjust the amount of agave as per your preferences. If you like a really sweet drink, you can add more.
Fresh Raspberries
Meet the star ingredient of our not-quite traditional margarita, the beautiful and fresh berries. We need half a cup of these yummy goodies for this recipe.
Raspberries are good for your heart. They are full of phytonutrients that keep your blood pressure in check, your bones in good health, and fight chronic inflammation. You can also get your daily dose of Vitamin C with these tiny jewels!
And that’s why I love to add them to my cocktails – they make them even more delicious AND add a health component.
How to Make Raspberry Margarita
- Start by salting the rim of the glass. Dampen the glass rim by rubbing a lime or lemon edge around it.
- Dip your glass onto a saucer filled with salt so it can stick to it. Throw in a few fresh ice cubes and set aside.
- Put all your ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and muddle till the raspberries soften.
- Next, pour strain the drink using a fine-mesh sieve into your prepared glass. Sip away!
Tips
- You can also use sea salt or margarita salt for your salted rim.
- If you like things more on the sweeter side, switch it up and add a sugar rim!
- Always use fresh ingredients for a perfect drink.
FAQs
Can I Use Frozen Raspberries?
Yes, you can use frozen raspberries for this recipe too. However, frozen raspberries release more liquid than fresh ones, so the drink may end up being a bit more diluted. If you use frozen fruits instead of fresh fruits, thaw them first.
Can I Make This Margarita Without Tequila?
Yes, you can make a delicious raspberry margarita without tequila. Simply substitute the tequila with 1.5 ounces of vodka and half an ounce of Cointreau or Grand Marnier. It’s not really a margarita anymore, but it will still be a tasty cocktail!
What Other Liqueur Can I Use?
If you don’t have any of the above-mentioned ones, try Chambord or any other raspberry liqueur. If your favorite liqueur doesn’t have a raspberry flavor, switch to OJ.
Can I Do a Sugar Rim Instead?
Of course, you can do a sugar rim. Just dip the glass into a bowl containing equal parts granulated sugar and water. Then, dip the edge of the glass in sugar until it is fully coated. Enjoy!
Can I Double the Recipe?
Why not? Double the ingredients to make a big batch of this classic margarita. I’m sure you and your friends will love it!
Can I Freeze Margaritas?
A frozen margarita is always a good idea. Place all of the ingredients in the blender, add ice, and blend!
