Give me a margarita and a little sunshine (just a little…please?) and I’m content. It doesn’t really matter if I’m on a beach or in my own backyard, margaritas are my happy place.
This is not the first margarita recipe to make its way to this little ol’ blog. Let’s just see here:
The Best Margarita Recipe
This one is the classic cocktail recipe that my husband Tim is famous for. Everyone loves his margaritas.
Grapefruit Margarita Recipe
This one is great in the winter when grapefruit is in season. You didn’t think of the margarita as a winter cocktail, did you?
Frozen Mango Margarita
Usually I prefer my margaritas on the rocks, but when I’m in the mood for a frozen margarita, this one is perfect!
Whenever I see a Spicy Jalapeño Margarita on a menu, I order it. I decided it was time to put my bartender husband to work and have him make me one at home! He worked his magic and came up with an easy recipe anyone can make at home. Here’s a look a what you need to make this!
Recipe Ingredients-What You Need
The only difference in ingredients between my classic margarita recipe and this Spicy Jalapeño Margarita Recipe is that you add a jalapeño pepper into the mix. It’s not pictured above, but it’s in the recipe!
Jalapeño Pepper- You can decide if your want to include the seeds or not, which increase the heat.
Limes (lime juice)-Fresh lime juice is worth the effort! I use a citrus juicer and life’s never been the same.
Cointreau- Cointreau is an orange liqueur.
Tequila – The base alcohol of the margarita is tequila.
Agave Nectar- Agave nectar is used to sweeten your margarita. You can leave this out, but it’s already a strong drink without it as cointreau is drier than triple sec, which is sometimes used in margaritas.
Cocktail Shaker- You’ll use it to make so many classic cocktails. Here’s one I like.
How to Make a Spicy Jalapeño Margarita
- If you prefer a salted rim, rub the rim of your glass with lime juice. Dip the rim into a plate of salt until it is covered with salt.
- Measure the lime juice into the cocktail shaker. Add the jalapeño slices and muddle them with the lime juice. If you don’t have a muddler, here is one for you to order. You can also use the handle of a thick, wooden spoon as a stand-in if you need to make your spicy margarita NOW!!
- Measure tequila, Cointreau, and agave nectar into the cocktail shaker.
- Fill with ice and shake.
- You want to double strain this. Pour through the cocktail shaker strainer, and then through a small fine mesh sieve, into a glass of ice.
Tips and Tricks for a Perfect Spicy Jalapeño Margarita
What Kind of Tequila Should I use?
You can use blanco or reposado tequila. Reposado is tequila that has been aged in oak whiskey barrels while blanco is distilled and bottled immediately. I prefer blanco for my margarita recipes, but it’s personal preference. You want a high-quality tequila that is 100% agave with no fillers or other ingredients.
What about the jalapeño seeds?
We leave the seeds in the slices when muddling the jalapeño. If you want a little less heat, take some out.
Should I garnish with a jalapeño slice?
It makes it look awesome, but will increase the spiciness. And if those seeds touch your lips you’ll feel the fire! Ask me how I know.
Why do you double strain it?
This ensures there aren’t seeds that make their way into your cocktail.
