When I learned one of my favorite blog authors, Sarah, aka Mama Pea, was coming out with a cookbook, I anxiously awaited its release.
Every single recipe I’ve tried on Mama Pea’s blog has been fantastic, so I knew her cookbook had to be added my to collection. When it hit stores on July 26th, I was the first in line at Barnes and Noble to secure my copy.
Since then, I’ve been cooking up a storm, trying her fabulous “meatless meals the whole family will love.” Guess what? No surprises here. Each recipe’s been a hit.
First I tried the chickpea strawberry mango salad. (pictured without the amazing cinnamon vinaigrette dressing)
This is easily one of the best salads I’ve ever had. And I’ve had a lot of salads. The roasted chickpeas, the fruit, the dressing–I’m in love. I’ve made it three times already–Tim is obsessed. He said, “I gotta hand it to this Pea Lady, she can make a great salad.” When a man loves a salad that much, you know you have a winner.
I also tried the mediterranean lentil meatballs. I served them with whole grain spaghetti and her homestyle spaghetti sauce.
I loved the unique flavor of these “meat”balls and was happy to find they had a great texture, too. That’s important when you are talking about a meatless ball. It can’t be too soft, it needs to hold together, and it absolutely can’t be mushy. These balls are spot on in both taste and texture.
I liked them with the spaghetti sauce, but thought they’d pair nicely with a variety of different sauces as well. You could take these in a lot of different directions.
Another recipe I tried was her mini tofu frittatas.
I was really testing Mama Pea by trying this recipe. You see, I’m not the biggest tofu fan. I don’t like its flavor, so it must be completely hidden. I hate the texture, so that must be changed. It really takes a lot for me to like a tofu recipe, especially one where tofu is supposed to act like something else rather than just tofu. (In this case, eggs)
Well, I was totally impressed with this recipe. Mama Pea is all about flavorful dishes, and this one is no exception. The flavors were outstanding. I made these for lunch, but they’d make a great breakfast, lunch, or even dinner.
I didn’t have Meghan try them, but I think these could be kid-friendly, too.
There’s a sampling of the recipes you’ll find in this outstanding cookbook. But it doesn’t stop there. This is more than just a cookbook, friends. So much more.
Included with every recipe, along with the colorful photos, is a story that propels you into the Pea family’s life. You will be laughing from the first story and want to stay up late reading about their escapades. I feel like I know them all after delving into this cookbook.
So, you want a copy, right? If you already have a copy, you want an extra one. Just think, you can cross someone off of your Christmas list in August. How often does that happen?

Hi Maryea! Please post the delish mango strawberry salad recipe! Update on me- we had Ryan 5 days late on Aug 5. It went awesome! It is such a blessing to now have a boy and a girl. Lily is so sweet to her little bro, sings to him, covers him, always wants to see him and loves holding him. I think you too will look at Meghan in a new light. Best wishes to you. I feel so complete! Oh, and a copy of this cookbook would complete me even further! 🙂

CONGRATS! Sounds like he needed plenty of time to “cook”. 🙂 I love the name, too. I’m sorry I can’t post the recipe since it’s from the cookbook, but maybe you’ll win and you can give it a try! If not, buy the book! You won’t be sorry! 🙂

That salad looks delish, and I’m hoping to try the lentil meatballs ASAP… my little guy loves lentils and right now we’re doing just the sauce and noodles, so I’d love to add these to it!
