I’ve told you that my pregnancy cravings have been for salty, spicy, savory foods.  That doesn’t mean I never crave anything sweet, but nothing beyond my normal need for sweet treats.

When I was pregnant with Meghan, it was a totally different story.  I wanted something sweet all the time.  I needed desserts on a daily basis and if you were smart you wouldn’t try to tell me otherwise.  Since I have a husband with a sweet tooth that rivals a pregnant woman any day, I didn’t have a problem getting what I needed.

All the sweets I ate with Meghan in utero must have had an effect on her, because the child loves her desserts almost as much as her Daddy.  Maybe even as much as her Daddy, which is just plain crazy.

Denying her access to sweet treats is not my desire, so I am constantly working to create healthy desserts for her (and, ahem, her dad).

Banana soft serve is something that I’ve been making for a while.  It’s quick, easy, and a delicious dessert with one ingredient!  You can’t go wrong. For this recipe, I’ve spiced it up a bit and added a topping of “cookie dough” that makes it seem even more special.

Don’t you love it when a dessert tastes delicious, is low in sugar, and takes less than 10 minutes to whip up?  Yes, you need to make this.

Description

A sweet homemade soft serve recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 bananas, frozen (peel bananas and freeze in a ziplock bag or freezer-safe container)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/4–1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (to taste)

Instructions

Break your frozen bananas into a few pieces and put into the food processor.  Process until the bananas are completely broken down and you have a smooth texture like that of soft serve ice cream.  This will take 2-5 minutes.  Add the maple syrup and cinnamon and stir or process again until they are incorporated.  Don’t over-process or the soft serve will get too soft. Top each serving with 1-2 cookie dough balls and serve immediately.

If you are making the cookie dough balls just for this recipe, don’t worry, the extras are great snacks, especially for little hands.  Meghan adores these.  In fact, when I was making them for this post, I went to get my camera and returned to find her with her chair pulled up to the counter and mouth full.

Busted!

Please, Mommy, just one more? Snacks just before lunch?  How can I say no to that face? 😉

When you make the maple cinnamon soft serve with these tasty little “cookie dough” bites, you can enjoy your healthy dessert knowing that it’s just 225-325 calories, without refined sugar, and has a good mix of carbs, protein, and healthy fat.  {Each cookie dough ball is around 100 calories, so the difference depends on if you crumble one or two on top of your soft serve.}

I hope you enjoy it as much as my little dessert monster.

This healthy treat tastes like ice cream but is made with bananas! Quick and easy to make and kids love it. Great healthy, low sugar dessert recipe!

Our 22 month old hasn’t realized that she can push a chair to the counter in order to access what’s up there unless we suggest it… I’m sure these days are numbered!
I LOVE making her banana soft serve, I’ve made it for myself for years and call it ice cream, so she thinks that’s what ice cream is 🙂 Your flavor combo sounds really tasty, I’ll definitely try it out soon. Can’t go wrong with those cookie balls either!

I call it ice cream, too. That’s what Meghan thinks it is. 🙂

She is absolutely precious and I can’t believe how much she looks like you in the pic where she is smiling. 🙂
I always want sweets and love making banana soft serve. I have to add things to it though or I’m not too terribly excited about it. I’m going to try your cookie balls – I think we’ll love them. Carter always pulls his little step stoop up to the counter to steal a treat. 🙂

Thank you so much for saying that, Lindsay! Ever since Meghan was born everyone says she looks just like my husband. It’s nice to hear someone say she looks like me. 🙂

such cute pic! your daughter is adorable! and she´s got good taste 😉
I wonder if you can taste the bananas a lot? I really would like to try this, but I don´t like the taste of bananas themselves.

I wouldn’t say that you can taste the banana a lot, but you definitely can taste it. The maple syrup and cinnamon really tone it down, though.

Thank you for your reply, Maryea! I might as well give it a shot with half the amount of ingredients. If I don´t like it, I got plenty of friends who do love bananas 😉
