When I was teaching, one of my favorite parts of the job was hearing all the funny things the kids would say. It is just so darn cute to see the way kids see the world and express themselves. Now that I’m a mom, I get to hear the funny things 24/7. And I love it.
I thought it’d be fun to share some of the latest things my kids have said that have made me laugh or smile.
#1 During one of the recent warm days, we were enjoying some outside time. Luke had Tim’s golf club. He said to me, very seriously:
“I’m a big, strong guy, Mom.”
This got me on so many levels. First, that sentence. More and more long sentences are popping out of his mouth and it always makes me stop and marvel. He’s not a baby anymore! Then, there’s the ‘Mom’ part. Since when am I Mom and not Mommy?! And a guy? You’re a guy?! Oh, how I love this guy.
#2 Meghan had her kindergarten screening this week. For those of you who read often you probably remember that Meghan is in kindergarten at a Montessori school this year. She’s a late September birthday so she will do kindergarten again next year. {I plan on writing more about our choice and the whole red shirting phenomena another day.} So I told her I was taking her to kindergarten screening and this is what she said:
“Screaming?! What do I have to do? Scream?”
I have clearly not mastered the art of taking non-blurry iPhone photos. I had to include this one anyway because I love her expression.
#3 We often have post-dinner dance parties at our house. Meghan usually picks the songs she wants, which means Frozen tunes dominate a lot. Sometimes she’s in the mood for some pop songs, though, and she likes Evacuate the Dance Floor by Cascada. She dances and sings at the top of her lungs, and this is what she thinks the words are:
“Oh, oh, vacuuming the dance floor!”
#4 Luke picked up the phrase “Oopsie Daisy!” and says it often when he drops things. One day after saying “Oopsie Daisy!” I heard him continue:
“Oopsie Donald! Oopsie Goofy! Oopsie Mickey!”
I had no idea he associated the phrase “Oopsie Daisy!” with the Disney character Daisy Duck.
#5 We’ve had a lot of snow days this winter. You, too? Meghan was invited over to play with one of her neighbor friends during a recent one. I couldn’t go with her because it was during Luke’s nap time. She’d never walked to a friends house alone, but this neighbor lives close enough that I could watch her walk the whole way. She just had to walk through our next-door neighbor’s back yard to get there. Meghan can be fearful and hesitates if she is unsure about a situation. That walk, by herself, had her nervous. I stood in our side yard watching and encouraging her. What should have been a 45 second walk took much longer. Every few steps she stopped and looked back, seemingly unable to go on. During one stop, she stood in between two trees, and yelled back:
“Mommy?! Are any of these trees going to fall on me?!!”
God bless her sweet heart.
I hope these brightened your day. Your turn: Share some of the funny things the kids in your life have said recently!

Raya is 2 1/2 now and things that she say continue to entertain her dad and I. Here are a couple I would like to share…
She loves Dora and talks about her next birthday party often (theyvmustvtalk about birthday parties at daycare?!?!). Anyway, I asked if she would like an “A-Dora-ble” party for her birthday. Very irritated with me, she replied, “No Mom!! I want an “A-Raya-ble” party!
Another one that struck me pretty funny, as of late, was:
Me: Come here baby girl.
Raya: (in a scream/cry/very mad tone) I am not a baby! I am a big girl like Danika (my 3 year old niece), I wear underwear!!
I love words out of the mouths if babes! The phrases never get old!

Actually just today my 5 yr old son asked if he could sit in the seat in the car w/o a booster. I told him not til he’s an adult. He asked how old that was. I said 18. He said “Oh then I’m not an adult yet.” I turned to strap in my 2.5 yr old and she looked at me and said very very seriously “I only 2 mommy.” Haha!

Once when Natalie was about 3 or 4 years old, this was her reply when asked to clean up her room…”who do you think I am, Cinderella?”

That’s hilarious! Too funny. 🙂 Cute at 3 or 4…ten years later it wouldn’t be as cute. 🙂
