Enjoy your favorite flavors of a banana split with this delicious smoothie recipe. With fruits and plant-based milk, this banana split smoothie offers a healthy way to start your day. It’s totally delicious enough to be dessert, too.

I’ve tried a ton of healthy smoothie recipes over the years, and of those, this banana split smoothie recipe is a top go-to for a quick, filling, and nutritious breakfast treat. It takes less than 10 minutes to get ready and uses easy-to-find ingredients.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Healthy and Delicious: This super yummy banana split smoothie makes healthy eating so much fun! It has a ton of potassium and vitamin B6 from the banana, as well as antioxidants and vitamin C from the strawberries. Plus, with no added sugar, this one will satisfy your sweet tooth without any guilt!

Easy and Quick: The total time prep for this fabulous smoothie is about 10 minutes! So you can enjoy it any time of day. I love it as a healthy snack or a sweet breakfast.

Fuss-Free: There are only six main ingredients here, all of which are mostly available in your pantry. If there isn’t a grocery store trip involved, I can confidently say this recipe is deliciously fuss-free.

Recipe Ingredients-What You NeedBanana split smoothie recipe ingredients

Banana: Although I sometimes use a frozen banana for the extra creaminess, you can use a fresh banana and it works just fine.

Strawberries: Strawberries and bananas were made for each other! You’ll love how their natural flavors blend together in this recipe. Frozen strawberries can be used here, but it could turn into a banana split smoothie bowl!

Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk: It’ll add a hint of vanilla flavor to the smoothie without adding too many calories. Plus, its nutty flavor pairs really well with the rest of the ingredients.

Raw Cacao Powder or Cocoa Powder: Enhance the flavors of strawberry and banana with a hint of chocolatey goodness! You can use whichever one you prefer or have on hand.

Peanut Butter: This one brings a dose of healthy fats to our yummy smoothie.

Pure Stevia Powder: If you’d like to add a bit more sweetness to the smoothie, this is a great way to do so without adding any extra calories. You can also use honey or maple syrup if you don’t love stevia.

Chocolate Protein Powder: This is optional, but I suggest it for a more filling meal with more protein.

Ice Cubes: If you’re using fresh fruit, the smoothie won’t be cold enough without ice.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use frozen fruits if you want your smoothie to have an ice cream texture.
  • Dress your smoothie with cacao nibs, shredded coconut, and diced strawberries for a fancy tough and even tastier experience.
  • Test other non-dairy milk options like cashew, coconut, or soy milk for a different taste profile. Regular cow’s milk works here, too!

Variations

Add Chocolate Sauce: Add a squeeze of chocolate syrup for a yummier, more chocolaty, and decadent sip. Keep it healthy by adding this vegan hot fudge sauce!

Boost the Protein Power: Adding protein powder to this healthy banana split smoothie recipe is a great way to boost its nutritional value.

Sprinkle Chia Seeds: A fun and easy way to add some texture or thicken the recipe, plus it boosts the protein and anti-inflammatory properties.

Use Greek Yogurt: Add a spoonful of Greek yogurt to your smoothie for an extra protein boost and creamier texture.

Smoothies are such a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way. Try this Peachy Kiwi Green Smoothie or this Orange Creamsicle Smoothie for more sweet and healthy smoothie recipes!

As always, enjoy, my friends!

    Hi Maryea,
I’ve been hearing a lot about raw milk these days and I was wondering what your take is on it…?

I have mixed feelings about raw milk. If I was going to drink a lot of cow’s milk, I would want it to be raw. I think it’s the healthiest version of cow’s milk we can drink. Well, if it’s raw milk from a grass-fed cow. BUT…I am still conflicted about drinking too much cow’s milk. It is high in casein (the type of protein) and I don’t think humans are built to consume large amounts of casein. I came to this conclusion after reading The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. Here’s a link where you can read a little bit about the studies he did: http://www.tcolincampbell.org/courses-resources/article/casein-consumption/ (and I’m sure if you search his website you can find even more info).

That being said, raw milk is illegal where I live. When I do buy cow’s milk (on occasion for certain recipes where non-dairy milks just won’t do), I buy milk that comes from a local farm of grass-fed cows that is not homogenized and pasteurized at the lowest possible temperature.
So that’s my short answer of what I think about raw milk. 🙂

This smoothie is almost the same as the one my 8 year old requests most mornings for breakfast. I like to add 1/4 c of rolled oats to the mix and omit the strawberries. We call it his Reese’s peanut butter cup smoothie. I’ll test out the addition of strawberries on him next time.
