Isn’t it convenient that beautiful red and blue fruits like watermelon, strawberries, and blueberries are in season for USA’s Independence Day? I love seeing all the patriot treats floating around the Internet, using the best of summer’s red-ish and blue-ish produce.
As much as I love seeing the cute desserts and salads, though, I have to admit I’m more of a last-minute and keep-it-simple kind of gal. If that’s you, too, these popsicles are just the recipe you’re looking for. They are festive and patriotic without any fuss.
I know it’s tempting to get those Red, White, and Blue Turbo Rocket Popsicles. Trust me, Meghan saw those babies in the grocery store and her eyes lit up. Unfortunately, those pops are high-fructose corn syrup flavored water with artificial food dyes (known neurotoxins). These natural popsicles are a much better choice for our little ones! And Meghan and Luke were just as happy to eat my version of a patriotic popsicle.
I first tried these with the Zoku Quick Pop Maker I got for Christmas. (Which I absolutely love, by the way!) I used a cookie cutter to cut the watermelon into star shapes. I would have worked better if I had a smaller star-shaped cookie cutter as these took up all the space in the pop, but I still thought it looked cute. Then for my other popsicle molds (these stainless steel ones), I just cut the watermelon into small pieces. I liked that look, too! I could have added even more fruit. You just don’t want to add so much that there’s no room for the lemonade to cover it.
These healthy popsicles can be enjoyed as a patriotic treat, but they are great all summer long. You can change up the fruit to match any theme you want. All you need is 10 minutes plus freeze time. Do it!

We made these for our 4th of July party, and they were a huge hit!
We ended up using raspberries and blueberries, because that’s what we had on hand (and because I didn’t want to take the time to cut star shapes in the watermelon).
We made 2 varieties – using lemonade and limeade. Both were great!
My kids loved making (and eating) these popsicles. Thanks for sharing,

Very neat idea. I especially love the star shape watermelon cuts. That alone could take the stage. 🙂 Happy 4th to you!
