Ingredients Needed for this Elderberry Gummies Recipe
Since eating raw elderberries is not a good idea (they contain a toxic substance that can make you sick!), you can use dried elderberries to make syrup and make homemade gummies that are safe and easy to eat. And the best thing is you only need the following two ingredients to make these immune-boosting elderberry gummies:
-
Elderberry syrup: Use dried elderberries, spices, and raw honey, to make your syrup. Make the syrup first, then you’re ready to make gummies.
-
Unflavored gelatin powder: Gelatin sets the gummies and creates a firm texture that kids and adults appreciate. I use this grass-fed beef gelatin.
Also Recommended: Gummy Molds: Silicone molds make it really easy! I like these because they make a larger size gummy bear than the super tiny ones.
How to Make Homemade Gummy Bears that’ll Strengthen Your Immune System
Once your elderberry syrup is ready, making natural immune support gummies won’t take much time or effort. Here’s my proven homemade elderberry syrup recipe that’ll give you a delicious way to enjoy these gummies in winter months:
-
Start with room temperature elderberry syrup and place 1 cup elderberry syrup in a small saucepan. Whisk in 3 tablespoons unflavored gelatin, one tablespoon at a time, whisking until it is dissolved before adding the next.
-
Turn on the heat, and allow mixture to get hot, but not boiling. Let it get to a very low simmer, and maintain that for 1 minute.
-
Remove from heat and transfer to small molds. Any silicone molds will work, or you can oil a baking dish and pour the mixture into the baking dish to set.
-
Allow to set in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before removing from the molds. If you used a baking dish, cut the gummies into squares and then use a spatula to remove them from the dish.
-
For immune protection, eat 1-3 gummies a day.
How to Customize this Elderberry Gummy Recipe?
If you want vegan elderberry gummies or wish to add more medicinal herbs to fight flu symptoms and respiratory infections, here are some swaps you can make:
Try a Vegan Alternative
You can use traditional gelatin for agar-agar if you need a vegan version. The size of the mold still matters, so use the same volume of mix. It’ll keep the texture firm and there will be no animal product involved. Note: I have not tried this, so cannot comment on how the results will be. If you need a vegan version, however, it’s worth a try!
Add a Soothing Touch
I sometimes add hot water mixed with ginger or lemon peel to my syrup for a gentle kick. These simple ingredients balance the sweetness and pair well with elderberries for a more comforting sensation during chilly days.
Vary the Texture and Shape
I enjoy making small gummies when I want quick bites, and I prefer bigger fruit-chew styles for fuller snacks. This helps everyone pick what they like. If we crave more fun, I freeze the mixture in novelty shapes and create healthier fruit snacks for the kids.
Incorporate Other Herbal Elements
You can also include immune-friendly herbal medicines like echinacea or a pinch of mint leaves. This combination offers a broader range of benefits in each gummy. But make sure only to add a small amount so the final taste still highlights elderberries.
I always try natural remedies first when it comes to keeping my family healthy. I recommend trying my Fire Cider, Lemon Ginger Turmeric Tea, Golden Milk Turmeric Tea, and Homemade Cough Syrup. Stay happy and healthy!

FAQs
Can I add more fruit flavors to these gummies?
Yes. You can mix the elderberry syrup with unsweetened apple juice for subtle sweetness. Some fruit purees like strawberry puree could be added, also. This is a good idea for those who don’t like the taste of elderberry.
Is there a way to add more herbal support?
I occasionally include a little herbal tea or mild herbal remedies for extra comfort. This works well because the gummies stay pleasant to eat.
How do I make them more tangy?
For that, add a pinch of lemon juice and zest for a sharper taste. This method turns them into small gummy bears with a slight zing. They’ll now work as DIY elderberry gummies trick for days when you want extra flavor.
