I’m excited to add this Spicy Black Bean Soup to my collection. There’s so many delicious flavors and textures. The chipotle peppers in adobo sauce add the perfect amount of spice. If you’d like, you can top it off with some sliced avocado, fresh cilantro, jalapeño, or a dollop of sour cream. It would also be good served with some tortilla chips and the best guacamole recipe!
The flavor isn’t the only thing I love about this hearty soup. It’s also full of nutrition. Black beans are a great source of protein and have so many health benefits. The veggies are full of vitamins and minerals, and the cumin can help fight inflammation making this soup an all around delicious and healthy meal.
Tips:
- Make sure you pour in all the sauce from the canned tomatoes. The juices have so much flavor!
- Freeze this soup, and warm it up when you don’t have time to cook. It will last in the freezer for 3 months. You can store it in a freezer bag or any airtight container.
- Top it off with your favorite toppings. Sliced avocados, fresh cilantro, and limes are all great options.
- If you like a creamy black bean soup, you can use a blender or an immersion blender to blend a portion of the soup until it’s super creamy. Stir it back into the pot, and you’ve got a creamy soup!
- To make it even spicer, add some red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, your favorite hot sauce, or jalapeños.

Oregano
Oregano tastes bold and earthy which is great in this soup. It’s rich in antioxidants and fights bacteria.

I used low sodium vegetable broth for this soup. It’s full of vitamin A which can help improve your eyes and enhance vision.
Black Beans
Black beans are a great source of protein in this soup. They’re great for blood sugar regulation and also have a good amount of iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. For a thicker soup, add an additional can of black beans.
Optional Toppings

How to Make Spicy Black Bean Soup
I think you’re going to love this healthy black bean soup recipe . It’s great for any night of the week because it’s so easy and the whole family will love it.
- In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat and then add the onion, carrot, and celery and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper and sauté another minute.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, chipotle peppers, vegetable broth, and black beans and bring to a boil.
- Reduce to low heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Serve with optional toppings, if desired. Enjoy!

The chipotle peppers in adobo sauce are what makes this soup spicy. It’s on the spicier side, but I’d still rate it a medium level of heat. But if you’d like to add more heat, either add more chipotle peppers, or I’d recommend topping it off with jalapeño peppers. You can also add some hot sauce!
On the other hand, if you’d like it to be mild, simply leave out the chipotle peppers and there’ll be no heat.

This soup will serve 6 people as a main course. If you’re serving it as a side, it will serve more people.
