Fitness Friday: Summer Fitness Bucket List

I am a list girl.  Having a fresh list motivates me, and having a list with all its items crossed off makes me feel incredible.  If there’s something I want to get done, there’s a much higher chance it’s going to happen if I put it on a list.

As a way to keep myself motivated to keep moving and trying new fitness things throughout the summer, I created a Summer Fitness Bucket List.  I didn’t want it to be so long that I couldn’t realistically get to everything, but still long enough to really be a challenge.  Here’s what made the final cut:

1.  Complete a 30-day Plank Challenge

I’m thinking I’ll do this in June.

2.  Run 6 miles

The longest run I’ve done this year is 5 miles.  I want to increase my mileage a bit and mix in some longer runs.

3.  Run 8 miles

Really need to build up to this.

4.  Run 10 miles

This might be a stretch!  It’s been about 10 years since I’ve run 10 miles.  Yikes.

5.  Run at least one road race

It’ll probably be a 5K.  There’s one I’m eyeing in mid-June.

6.  Complete a 30-day Push-up Challenge

I’m thinking this will be my July challenge.

7.  Try a new class

There’s so many classes at the YMCA I haven’t tried yet.  I would also like to try a Pure Barre class.

8.  Do yoga 1 time per week

Honest: I strongly dislike yoga. My body needs it, though.

9.  Do a hill workout

Is it weird that I kind of like hill workouts?  I need to find a good hill for this.

10.  Go on a long bike ride

There’s a 70 mile bike trail that I could hop on not far from our house.  I have never even seen it!  I need to change that.

11.  Run a timed mile on the track

I haven’t done this since college.  My best time back then was 5:55.  I’d like to see if I could beat that time.

12.  Do <1 speed workout on the track

I would love to do this once a week, but I know that won’t happen.  Hoping to at least get there twice.

I have a little work space on one wall of the kids’ play room, and I taped my Summer Fitness Bucket List there so I will see it everyday.  (As you can see, the wall is a decorating work-in-progress.)

Just making this list got me excited for working out this summer.  Sometimes a little list is all it takes!  Need some extra motivation?  Make a Summer Fitness Bucket List!

What’s on your Summer Fitness Bucket List?

Great, fun list. I am going to add one for you, but for fall. Since you are going to get up to 10 miles, you should come to Indianapolis and run the half marathon portion of the Monumental November 1st. 🙂

That’s tempting! I have to admit, last time I ran a half marathon (many moons ago) I said I’d never do it again. I guess I’ve started to forget the pain and am getting the itch again. 🙂

What a fun idea! I don’t have a list for summer but I have goals-continue running, yoga 2x a week, strength train 2x week, walks and bike rides with the family. Pretty basic stuff!

Love it — though mine will include MUCH less running! We have the same framed “butterflies” over here 🙂

This will be more running than I’ve done in a while, but I need the challenge! 🙂

I’m a list girl, too. Make life a lot easier, and, more importantly, it makes me feel accomplished 🙂 With being third-trimester pregnant, the biggest item on my fitness bucket-list is to stay as active as I can until baby girl makes her arrival in late August.

When you’re 3rd trimester pregnant in the summer, just getting through your day is a workout! 🙂

This post made me so happy as I, too, love lists! I have been feeling a bit “puffy” lately and a fitness bucket list is such a great idea:)
On a side note, I have been reading your blog for a while. I love the voice and the topics you post about with foods especially. I have been contemplating starting a blog for awhile– about family but in a different way- my struggles with infertility. It’s a baby blog– just beginning and I hope it will grow to my success story. Your blog is so great I would appreciate ANY feedback you have!
    Thanks!
