Description

This Spicy Jalapeño Margarita is super easy to make at home and is absolutely delicious!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 2 slices from a jalapeño pepper
  • 2 ounces blanco or repasado tequila
  • 3/4 ounce Cointreau
  • 1/4 ounce agave nectar
  • ice

Instructions

  1. If you prefer a salted rim, rub the rim of your glass with lime juice. Dip the rim into a plate of salt until it is covered with salt.
  2. Measure the lime juice into the cocktail shaker. Add the jalapeño slices and muddle them with the lime juice. If you don’t have a muddler, here is one for you to order. You can also use the handle of a thick, wooden spoon as a stand-in if you need to make your spicy margarita NOW!!
  3. Measure tequila, Cointreau, and agave nectar into the cocktail shaker.
  4. Fill with ice and shake.
  5. You want to double strain this. Pour through the cocktail shaker strainer, and then through a small fine mesh sieve, into a glass of ice.

Notes

What Kind of Tequila Should I use?

You can use blanco or reposado tequila.  Reposado is tequila that has been aged in oak whiskey barrels while blanco is distilled and bottled immediately.  I prefer blanco for my margarita recipes, but it’s personal preference. You want a high-quality tequila that is 100% agave with no fillers or other ingredients.

What about the jalapeño seeds?

We leave the seeds in the slices when muddling the jalapeño. If you want a little less heat, take some out.

Should I garnish with a jalapeño slice?

It makes it look awesome, but will increase the spiciness. And if those seeds touch your lips you’ll feel the fire! Ask me how I know.
