Ditch plastic straws…here are the best reusable straws for at home and plastic-free straws for when you’re on the go!When I first started using less plastic in my life, I freely admit that it was much more about my family’s health than the environment. Fast forward a few years, and while I’m still concerned about the effects of plastic on our health, I am equally aware and worried about the impact of single-use plastic products on the environment.
Thankfully there are plenty of options when it comes to replacing plastic straws in our home. Because of the way most plastics release estrogenic chemicals (no bueno!) I choose to use non-plastic reusable straws.
Here’s a look at the best reusable straws we’ve found!
Best Reusable Straws for Your Family
Stainless Steel Straws
These stainless steel straws have been great. A huge benefit of drinking a beverage out of a stainless steel straw is that your drink stays suuuuper cold! You’ll be surprised the first time you take a sip and see the difference.
This is especially important for me when I’m drinking smoothies, as I like my smoothies nice and cold.
The straws go right in the dishwasher, so cleaning is a breeze. I just make sure to run water through the straw before putting it in the dishwasher so nothing gets dried onto the inside while it sits waiting to be washed.
We also have these rose copper colored stainless steel straws, which are so pretty! Can’t hurt to have a PRETTY straw to replace your plastic straws, right?
Glass Straws
In addition to stainless steel, glass straws are another non-plastic reusable straw option. I love the way glass provides a clean taste for whatever you’re drinking. We have these wide glass straws, which are perfect for thick smoothies and milkshakes.
The obvious downfall to glass straws is that they’re breakable. We did have a casualty when Luke was unloading the dishwasher and dropped one. We use the stainless steel straws more than the glass straws for this reason, but we still love the glass straws.
Other Non-Plastic Straw Options
There are times when reusable straws aren’t the best option. Maybe you’re traveling and don’t want to deal with dirty reusable straws.
Note: I know in a lot of states, restaurants and other businesses only provide non-plastic straws now, but where we live plastic straws are still everywhere.
Paper straws, while not perfect (drink fast so they don’t disintegrate before you finish!), are the best throw-away option. Paper is way better for our health and the environment than using plastic straws.
You can get paper straws almost everywhere these days, but here are some bright, pretty paper straws from Amazon.
I hope this inspires you to do your part to ditch the plastic straws and replace them with one of these options!

I’ve had a hard time finding very many studies regarding silicone. I do use it but am not sure 100 percent.

Have you heard of the sofi straw? They have them at my local coffee shop here in Miami. They’re paper but work really well (I know surprising). I bought them on Amazon too and my son really likes them for his morning chocolate milk.
