…then you probably take yourself too seriously.
I laugh at myself all the time. Like when I start a load of laundry and then totally forget about it until next time I go to do laundry. Or when I just spent an hour in Target shopping, only to get to the check out lane and discover I forgot my wallet.
Or that time when I thought I was making parsnip fries, but actually made Daikon radish fries.
Parnsips and daikon radishes are almost the same exact thing, right? They sure do look a lot alike. Take a look at what a google image search will show you:

Okay, so not exactly the same, but if you don’t have them both in front of you and you have never really even heard of Daikon radish, you might get them confused. I’m totally trying to justify my vegetable mix up here. Is it working?
Although I’m laughing at myself, I can’t get too upset at my mistake because regardless of what kind of fries I made, they were delicious. I didn’t mention in my post that Tim and I devoured the entire two trays when I made these for lunch. Sometimes we are gluttons like that. (Meghan was not into them. She’s a weirdo eater who lately is only digging peanut butter and avocado. I’m working on it.)
Anyway, I got more of these radishes in my box this week, so now I have something to make with them other than pickling them or using them in a salad, which are the two main things I found when I googled “Daikon radish recipes”.
I also picked up some parsnips at the grocery store yesterday and am going to try the recipe with them. After that, I will edit the post accordingly. Hopefully it will be a versatile recipe that you can make all kinds of vegetable fries with.
In other news, my goal this week is to update my recipe page once again. I don’t know why I always let myself get behind on this task! I know I have a lot of recent recipes that I need to add, but I am also noticing more and more old recipes that are not there.
I made these Apple Chutney Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms last night for dinner, and had to search and search for the recipe:
A reader recently alerted me on Facebook that my Peppermint Hot Cocoa was missing from the recipe pages:
I have a task ahead of me! If you happen to notice any old recipes that you are looking for and are not listed on the recipe page, please leave me a comment (either on this post or directly on the recipe page) and let me know.
Thanks so much, generous readers, for your help and for not laughing too hard at my fries mix up. I hope you have a lovely Thursday.

LOL That is funny! Coincidentally I planted daikon this year as something new to try. I had no idea what to do with it once we harvested it and had to search for recipes. We really liked this salad: http://www.ifood.tv/recipe/daikon_radish_amp_carrot_salad
And this page has some great ideas: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/asianveg/msg0411440929289.html If you scroll through several people mention Japanese curry and include some suggestions. It sounds delicious and something I’m going to try next. Let us know what you end up doing with those daikons! 🙂

Thanks for the links! (Your comment went to SPAM so I just found it) Last week I threw some of the daikon radish in a vegetable soup I made. It was a good addition. 🙂

Thanks for the tip! I have more to use up. 🙂

I can understand that confusion. haha. Not as bad as my cousin who mistakes zucchinis for cucumbers all the time. haha
Maryea says
I have done that, too!! Only as soon as I cut into it I realized my mistake. 🙂

Your fruit crisp from this summer! I think you made it with peaches and berries but I’ve made it with at least 6 different variations since and I always have to back through the posts to find the recipe. My family devours them every time.

Thanks, Lena!

Ha! That is funny, good for you for realizing:) Daikon radishes are so good for you! An old man once told me in the grocery store if you eat them you will live forever. Glad to have a yummy recipe now!
Maryea says
Wow I guess I am going to have to keep eating them! 🙂

PS. I also cannot locate your “football game guacamole” and I need to make it this weekend for some friends. They are coming over to watch a football game and I thought this might be a fitting snack. Thanks!

Thanks, Lisa!

You found a truly unique use for daikon radish that you and your husband love, I call that a win! Happy accidents are how many great discoveries are made. I wish I had done more accidental inventing of tasty recipes (instead of just leaving my sunglasses in the freezer) when I had pregnancy brain!
Maryea says
Yes, I’m definitely calling it a win. Even though I feel silly. 😉

Being able to laugh at yourself is a very good trait to have! What fun would life be if we took ourselves too seriously? Besides, I bet you are the first person in the world to make daikon radish fries–I say go with it. 🙂

I seriously am a ball of fun with all the wrong things I do! The other day I locked my daughter and I in the garage for 4 hours….I wasn’t laughing then, and I’m not really laughing now…but I KNOW that sometime in the future I will.. 🙂
Maryea says
Ay–I don’t think I’d be laughing at that one, either. It’s totally something I would do though! I almost ran out of gas yesterday when I was driving with Meghan. I kept thinking how my husband would never let me live it down if I did! 🙂 Luckily we made it to the gas station…

As long as what you ate tased good, I think that is all that matters! 🙂 They do look very similar and I bet the texture is super close too….. Pepermint hot cocoa, that is my kind of drink!

I laugh at myself all the time and I also do all of those things, too. For example, drive halfway to the farmer’s market and forget your wallet. Yep, did that recently. You can only laugh because it’s so ridiculous it’s funny. Also, made your Butternut squash and apple soup last night and it took me a long time to find it, too. I don’t think it’s listed under the soup section under recipes. It was super delicious, though. Have a great day!

I laugh at myself all time! Maybe too often! I tend to be clumsy a lot and I forget a load of laundry in the washer far too often! 🙂
