If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I’ve been on a mission to eliminate toxins from my life. This means I’ve been looking for quality, natural products that I can feel good about my whole family using.
I haven’t posted any updates lately in my progress of making baby steps towards a more natural lifestyle, but know that I have been consistently working towards my goals and learning about safer, more natural products for my home and personal care.
The thing is, it isn’t easy to find products that are safe, natural, AND effective. Sometimes it’s downright overwhelming.
So when Green Journey Distributors contacted me asking if I’d like to try and review some of the Broody Chick Natural Products, I was excited to check them out. Here’s the amazing stash they sent me:
Before I give you the rundown of each product, let me tell you a little bit about this company. Broody Chick Natural Products is a Canadian company that was started by a mom of three young boys who, just like you and me, was fed up with constantly searching for products that were free of chemicals, parabens, preservatives, fake fragrances, and that were also gentle for the earth.
She started creating her own products in her kitchen and after becoming a hit with all her friends and family, Broody Chick Natural Products was born. Not only are all of her products made with natural, high quality ingredients, but a portion of all profits are donated to help support the Victoria Hospital foundation for the child care and neo-natal units. This is a company I can stand behind!
Now let me tell you about the products we’ve tried:
#1 Every Body Lotion- I absolutely love this product. I use a lot of lotion; I am a moisture freak when it comes to my skin. This is one of my all-time favorite lotions. It has a light scent, but not overpowering. It’s light, yet moisturizing. It absorbs into the skin nicely and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy. The best part? This lotion is just what its name implies–for everybody! You can use this on everyone in your family from baby to mom and dad.
#2 Bye Bye Boo Boo-This is a little stick that says it will “soothe the irritation of bites and stings, scratches and scuffs with essential oils to help promote healing”. It might as well be magic because it stops Meghan’s tears every time she falls and gets a scrape. And she falls a lot. I’m not sure if it’s just the idea of putting something on her boo boo or if it really makes it feel better, but Meghan loves this stuff.
#3 Bath Bar-A really nice bath bar. Doesn’t dry out your skin at all and it’s safe for the whole family. A very light, not overpowering scent.
#4 Boody Balm-This is an all-natural diaper cream that I love. Meghan has been blessed to never have a full-blown diaper rash and only occasionally got irritated skin in her diaper area when she was in diapers. She’s actually day toilet trained now, but still gets irritated skin at times, probably because she won’t sit still long enough to get a good wipe. We’ve been using this on her every night before bed and it’s really kept the red, irritated skin under control.
#5 Every Body Wash-I like the body bar better than the wash. This is just okay. I don’t love the scent and don’t like that it doesn’t get very sudsy like the bar does.
#6 Wonderbalm-This is a non-petroleum jelly. Love it. Until recently, I was using Aquaphor on both myself and Meghan. I used it on my lips or any irritated skin. I didn’t even realize that mineral oil is not a product I want to be using. Read about why mineral oil is dangerous here; knowledge is power.
#7 Bug Be Gone-This is a great natural bug repellent that is safe for the kiddos and works! It has a nice smell, too, unlike its toxic counterparts. Good stuff.
#8 Compostable Diaper Bag-When I go to the grocery store, I use reusable sacks. Once in a while, however, I would purposely get some plastic bags so I’d have a place to put stinky diapers before dumping them in the trash. These fully biodegradable diaper sacks are an excellent alternative! I wouldn’t have even thought that something like this is available, but I’m so glad I know about them now. Great product.
#9 Compostable Bibs-If you use disposable bibs, these are a great, earth-friendly alternative. Normally we use cloth bibs, but these are great to keep in the diaper bag for when you’re out and about and don’t have a bib with you or just want to be able to throw the bib away when you’re finished.
The next three products I haven’t tried yet, but I’ll give you the scoop on what they are.
#10 Eco-Natural Diapers-Fully compostable and made from only all-natural materials. They sent me the newborn size, so Baby Bean will be the tester on these!
#11 100% Natural, Fully Compostable Wipes-These will be great for Baby Bean as well. I love that they are only made from natural materials AND they are great for the earth.
#12 Sniffs and Snuffles-This is a natural version of Vick’s Vapor Rub. I should try this since I’ve been congested, but I’d rather wait until I’m not pregnant. We’ll definitely try this in the winter if we get colds. It’s safe for Meghan, too!
Overall, I love these products. Many of them I will continue to use after my samples run out. I’m excited to have learned about Broody Natural Products–its a great company with phenomenal products.

Hello
I am looking for Broody Chick email contact. Do you have one? I want to be sure that there is zero sodium polyacylate on them because in Europe I cannot find any diaper without SAP…
Ps : what are these pictures of muffins and pancakes? Are they advertissment or articles written by you? Cos that’s not really healthy…
Maryea says
I’m sorry I no longer have their contact email. You can find them on Etsy, though, and ask them your question. And I have a number of healthy pancake and muffin recipes on my site. Everyone has different definitions of healthy, I guess.

Thank you for your quick answer 😉

I would not buy from this company. Read other reviews online – pretty consistent towards diapers.
Maryea says
The Amazon reviews of their diapers seem to be good. Did you have a problem with them?
Sarah says
I might check out some of these products for me (even though I don’t have kids) because I super sensitive skin and break out from many products. Thanks for the reviews!

I actually haven’t heard of this company before but would love to try it out!! Right now I’m loving my homemade laundry soap, dishwashing detergent and wool dryer balls. I’m saving money left and right AND working on getting rid of the nasty toxins that surround us.

Hey that’s super cool – this is a local brand from where I live 🙂
I used the wipes occasionally (kind of pricey, mostly we used cloth)
I LOVED the Wonderbalm and used it more than the Boody Balm – for diaper rash to rug burn to chapped lips to my cuticles and hangnails. It’s a fabulous product!

I haven’t heard of Broody Natural Products before this review. I love that more companies are starting to come out with products like this!

These products look great. I’m slowly going through ours as we finish off various bottles and replacing them with natural products. It’s a tough process!

I haven’t heard of them before, but I’m eager to try them now! I bought a “natural” insect repellant for Carter from Whole Foods and I threw it away because it stinks so bad. Smells just like citronella and it’s a REALLY overpowering smell. And it didn’t really work! No thanks!
I’ve been using white vinegar to do the majority of my cleaning lately. I use it to clean the counters, windows, and floors.
Maryea says
Really? Just white vinegar on windows? How does it do? Any streaking?
Stacia says
I use an equal mix of water and vinegar… no streaks! When you start wiping the window or mirror with it it looks like it’s going to leave streaks but it doesn’t. I also use this mix on my wood floors and straight up vinegar as a rinse agent in my dishwasher.
Stacia says
i use the california baby insect repellent and works great and the order isn’t nasty at all.

Ooooo, so amazing! ….The sister JUST had her baby on Friday and these would be MEGA handy! She is influenced by all the natural things I do and she would flip for something like this! Thanks for the review, now I know what you are liking the most…. I’m going to have to check it out, New baby gift?!?! Hmmmm! 🙂
Maryea says
Congrats to your sister! And to you, Auntie! 🙂

I think its just as important to be careful of what we put on our skin as we are careful of what we eat. My favorite scrub is mixing honey and sea salt – leaves my skin so smooth! And for my hair- egg yolks with olive oil and honey and leaving it in for a few hours. Oh, and coconut oil! But that I like to eat instead of spread on my skin haha 🙂
