Would you like to know what I really love about the Healthy Year Challenge? Every month, I’m being intentional about one area of my health, and just by being intentional, I’m seeing measurable changes. Positive changes that can make a huge difference in my overall health.
Every month I add something else to focus on, but the rest of the challenges aren’t forgotten. Because I spent a month thinking about how many vegetables and fruits I was eating, I continue to think about it daily as I choose my meals and snacks.
This month I’m focusing on MOVING MORE. My biggest focus has been being more active overall, even on my “rest days” that I’m not doing formal workouts. It’s not super natural for my life. I don’t live in a walkable area, I am a blogger so I am naturally sitting a lot for work. I’ve had to be very intentional in order to be more active.
This week I only got three formal workouts in, which I wasn’t totally happy about since my ongoing goal is to get four workouts in each week. Overall, though, I was more active. By being intentional about how I spend my time, I chose to be more active whenever I could. I parked farther from the stores I went to, I played with the kids outside instead of just sitting in a chair and watching them play. I took breaks from working to move. All these choices add up to a more active life.
Here’s a look at how my week went:
Sunday
off
6,203 steps
Monday
off
7,871 steps
Tuesday
55 minute metabolic workout class at the Y
11,101 steps
Wednesday
Ran 3.5 miles
14,128 steps (7.8 miles)
Thursday
20 minute Insanity Workout DVD
Sometimes Tim’s schedule doesn’t allow me to make it to the class at the Y on Thursday mornings, and I’m always sad to miss it. It’s a class I love to hate, if you know what I mean. A 20 minute workout was all I could squeeze in on this day.
9,448 steps (4.97 miles)
Friday
off
I took of my Garmin for part of the day because I went to a concert and didn’t like how it looked with my outfit. 😉 We walked about a mile to and from the concert, though, so the steps would be quite a bit higher.
6,349 steps
Saturday
off
Meghan had a track meet for about 3 hours during the morning and I spent a lot of it running back and forth across the infield, so I passed 9,000 steps before I even left the meet. The rest of the day we played outside, so even though I didn’t do a formal workout, this was an active day. I’m grateful the good weather is here to allow outside time.
14,408 steps (8.2 miles) Biked 2 miles (just around the cul-de-sac with the kids)
Even though I didn’t get as many formal workouts in this week, I was overall more active than last week. I still would like to be over 10,000 steps every day, so I’m going to keep working on it!
