Chronicles of a Very. Cold. Day.

I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so I’m no stranger to cold weather.  Sub zero temperatures were not uncommon, but this Arctic blast is insane.  I can’t actually say I’ve felt it, since I didn’t leave the house today.  It sure looked cold, though.

With Meghan’s Christmas break extended and it much too cold to play outside, we were stuck in the house all day.  What’s a stay-at-home mama to do?

Get creative.  And by get creative, I mean steal ideas from Pinterest.

Colored masking tape created “roads” throughout our great room.

The holy family even joined the fun before I finally got my remaining Christmas decorations put away later in the day.

Meghan and Luke had fun playing with cars and Little People in their “town” for quite a while.  Luke and I stayed in our pajamas all day, while Meghan wore her Frozen dress.  She’s basically lived in it since she got it on Christmas.

Lots of time was spent wiggling her loose tooth.  (Yes, she has a loose tooth! I know!  I try not to think about her being old enough to have a loose tooth.)

We may have acted out Frozen and listened to the soundtrack once or twice ten times.  Do you want to build a snowman? is probably going to be stuck in my head for a week.

Of course while the kids were playing I tried to sneak some time in the kitchen.  I put the crockpot to work.

I made some of these maple multi-seed snack cookies and some peanut butter chocolate granola bars (recipe coming soon!)

Since my sink was already full of dishes, I decided to pull out the juicer and make some vegetable-fruit juice that ended up looking like swamp water.

I put it in the kids stainless steal cups so they don’t have to look at it.  According to Luke, it was “deeeelicous!”

There were plenty of these moments, too.

I mean, we were home all. day. long.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another Very. Cold. Day.  Even though Meghan’s school has already been cancelled for tomorrow, I’m quite certain I will bundle up the troops and go out somewhere.  Anywhere.  Because this mama can only handle one day of being cooped up all day.

I hope you enjoyed this slice of life post; I don’t do them often, but I had fun writing it.  Stay warm!

The kids were so sad when I pulled all the roads up. 🙂

It is amazing to me to see how completely similar to households can be. We are all about Frozen, same dolls in hand, singing the soundtrack, trains, fresh juice, PB bars, crockpot- crazy! What a wonderful time of life. Thank you for the chronicle. Only difference is I work 4 days a week so don’t get to enjoy it 24/7. Stay warm and enjoy! ❤️
