My pregnancy: 19 weeks

I’m just bursting with excitement and have been dying to share the news with you!  Yesterday, we had our ultrasound appointment and found out the baby I’m carrying is a

I had no feelings whatsoever about whether I was having a boy or girl, so I was completely surprised when the ultrasound tech pointed out the unquestionable parts that make this baby a male.

I don’t think it matters if it is your first baby or fifth baby, seeing your child inside of you via ultrasound is nothing short of amazing.  Seeing his little arms and legs moving all around, watching him touch his face, it’s overwhelming.  I can’t stop staring at the picture of his profile and am already completely in love with him.

How I’m Feeling

Besides a few achey muscles, I’m feeling great.  My energy level is decent (muuuuch better than it was in the first trimester) and I think I’m doing a good job of keeping up with a toddler who seems to have an unending supply of energy.

What’s Happening with my Body and Baby

My belly is continuing to grow right along with the baby. The ultrasound tech told me that Baby Bean was “measuring big”.  He was actually a whole week ahead of schedule.  At this point they don’t change the due date because I had an early ultrasound and those are most accurate at predicting due dates; his size might just mean I’m going to have a big baby.  Meghan was average at 7 pounds, 6 ounces, but Tim was over 10 pounds, so maybe Baby Bean is taking after his daddy.  I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that makes me a little nervous.

I’m bored with the regular smiling pictures. 🙂

Exercising Update

Thank you for all of your reassuring comments last week when I talked about my feeling regarding exercising while pregnant.   I’m feeling more confident with my choices this week because I realize that I’m listening to my body.  That’s all I can do.  I can’t compare myself to others.  I set a goal last week to get 4-5 good workouts in and I exercised 4 times. I’m not running marathons over here, but I’m moving and staying active.  I purchased  Lindsay Brin’s pregnancy DVDs, based on a recommendation from a reader (thanks, Leigh Ann!) and am excited to make her workouts a regular part of my routine.

One other aspect of my fitness that can’t be discounted is my day-to-day activities. Functional fitness counts!  Last night as my almost 30 pound daughter insisted I carry her up the stairs, I realized I get mini-workouts in throughout the day.  I’m definitely not sitting in an office chair all day.

Pregnancy Eating

I still have a large appetite, and trying to make smart food choices to fill up my tummy and keep me satisfied.  Tomorrow I have a post for you that takes an honest look at a day in the life of my eating.  Make sure to stop by and check it out!

  1. Aww a little boy! How sweet. I have a little brother. We’re 5 years apart so we’re not incredibly close but whenever I need him, he’s there for me. 🙂 I’m very thankful for him.

  2. ah, didn´t I say that from early on? I just had a feeling about it 🙂
    So happy for you!
I think hearing the baby is very big would make me feel a bit nervous, too… But I am sure it will work out fine. My mum, a midwife, always says “a woman´s body is made to give birth” 😉

    1. Good call, Michaela! Looking back it makes sense because this pregnancy is different in subtle ways, but I really didn’t have a strong feeling either way.
I’ll keep your mom’s advice in mind! 🙂

  3. Congratulations to you and Tim!! I am very much looking forward to reading your next post – I love an “honest” look at someone’s day! We all KNOW what to do, but… 🙂

    1. That was totally the plan this week! Apparently I’m bad at deadlines and the post isn’t making it up until Saturday. Whoops. I actually had major problems with wordpress this week so I got behind schedule. 🙁

  4. Yay for boys!!! I have 2 boys (4yo and 2yo) and they are sooo sweet. Just had my first girl 4 mos ago so I’m still on the girl learning curve…haha! You are looking fab, BTW!! So glad you decided to get Lindsay’s DVD’s. You won’t be sorry. And all of her other DVD’s are awesome for post-baby too. I like that I can just stick in a DVD and work up a good sweat rather than having to tote 3 kids to the gym 🙂 Keep up the good work and listen to your body. Looking forward to your food post tomorrow! Many blessings!

  5. Hooray for little baby boys! (I’m a little biased, perhaps.) Now that it is confirmed, I urge you to rush right out and get a little pair of denim overalls–little boys + little denim overalls = cutest thing ever!
    (I love your shirt!)

  6. Aww, so exciting! You’re going to have one of each 😀 And I’m pretty sure ultrasounds are always exciting too. I loved them 😀 It still makes my heart skip a beat just thinking back to seeing both my babies on that screen.
You look fantastic and I’m so glad you’re feeling better about the whole exercising thing. I know exactly what you mean, it’s so easy to compare ourselves to others but if you’re doing whats right for you, then that’s all there is to it. I’m curious to see your next post 🙂

  7. Ahhh Baby Bean is a BOY! 🙂 <3 How amazing! ….I loved how you got to say you watched him 'touch HIS face'!
I'm excited to take a look tomorrow and maybe gain some knowledge! YOU and your two little ones have a happy healthy weekend! 🙂

  8. Congratulations! That is so exciting. I’m so happy for you and your family, Maryea. You do look fantastic, and, I agree listening to your body and trying not to compare yourself to what others are doing makes sense.

  9. YAY!!! A BOY!!!! And I must Maryea, that you really are glowing. More so than the last weeks pregnancy updates. You look wonderful!!!!!!!!!!
