Healthy Snack Idea: Peanut Butter-Chocolate Spread

Chocolate Peanut Butter Spread

Is there a better flavor combination out there than peanut butter + chocolate?  Really–is there?  Peanut butter and chocolate just go together, but you don’t really think of it as a healthy treat, right?  It definitely can be if you create something that doesn’t have all the extras:  white sugar, corn sugar, and a toxic preservative (TBHQ) that is a known carcinogan and can cause ADHD symptoms in children.  {Hint:  all of those things are found in Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.  Don’t shoot the messenger.}

I know better than anyone (well, except maybe my husband) that when the chocolate craving hits, it hits, and if you don’t have something in the house ready there could be trouble.  Tell me I’m not the only one who gets intense chocolate cravings like this.  This spread is perfect because you can make it in a second’s notice with ingredients you most likely have stocked in your pantry.  You can have a tasty chocolate treat in less than five minutes.

The recipe yields a thick spread.  I know I could make it a smoother consistency by adding some extra oil, but I prefer to keep the calories in check.

This spread is delicious on apples as pictured above, but it can be used in so many ways.  Try it on a banana, spread it on bread, or just eat it by the spoonful!  Your kids are going to want to devour this, so if you don’t want to share, make it after they go to bed. I won’t tell.
